“Flower Power”

In the middle of a busy town, this tiny fawn sleeps on my back lawn most every night under the constant watch of her protective father. I call her “Flower” and am completely and totally in love.

P.S. – It has been three months since the above post. Flower paid a visit a couple days ago and I noticed tiny antlers sprouting on “her” head. FYI – “Flower” is a guy.

Welcome to the World, Hoda!

DSCF0001Welcome to the World, Hoda!
A little opossum with great promise
A little opossum with limitless possibilities
foraging her way through this big old mess
Stay strong, little one
It won't be easy, but will be worth every minute
We need you, Hoda
Doing your 'possum stuff
Contributing to the cause
Making the World a little bit better
just by being here
Welcome, Hoda!
We need you.

If a Fish…

If a fish could speak in kisses

If a fish could live in love

If a fish could dream…

scheme…

work…

 fight…

play…

pray…

and sacrifice all,

 and everything in her life,

simply to save the Oceans…

That fish would be named “Haddie”.

Chester is Gone

Chester, Summer 2015

Chester, Summer 2015

I have no pets. I have never had pets.

I care for animals far too much to ever subject myself to so much pain.

The love. The loss.

But then came Chester.

Chester.

Guarding his sugar-water.

Perched proudly like a little eagle upon a wooden skewer

gripping tightly with his tiny Hummingbird feet.

“Stay away!” he would say. “This is my sugar-water!”

Months passed.

September came.

Chester is gone.

The sugar-water remains as a sad reminder

glistening outside my window.

How stupid was I to ever even think of naming a wild creature?

Nothing but a guarantee for heartbreak.

Bon Voyage my “Little Bumblebee”

Bon Voyage.

“Haddie Speaks”

Haddie speaks in kisses
Haddie lives in love
Haddie dreams of bubbles
filled with prayers from above

Haddie plays with Starfish
along the Ocean floor
seeing brilliant colors
we’ve never seen before

Haddie jokes with tail-flips
teasing everyone she meets
Dipping headfirst in the water
– splashing for a treat!

Haddie sleeps in stillness
her eyes open wide
A peaceful demeanor
masking fear held deep inside

Haddie cries in secret
her tears we cannot see
A strong little warrior,
she fights for you and me

Haddie works in earnest begging
“Please help save my home!”
’til peace comes to the Ocean
her mission carries on
